Neighbourhood Munchies

Neighbourhood Munchies

February 19th 2021

Neighbourhood Munchies is a food ordering app for residents of South Trinidad. It is currently one of the leading food ordering apps in the Country.

In 2018, the founders came to me with a mobile app concept. They wanted to create an app to allow restaurants to list their menu items, and customers to be able to order and have their food delivered at their doorstep. After our initial consultation, I was able to convince the clients that a PWA was the way to go, saving them a lot of budget for the initial journey of the startup.

Wow...I love this app, so user-friendly.

The Goal

The primary concept, was mildly unique to other food ordering platforms, as restaurant results would not be shown based on user location as the app itself already targeted a specific location. This was a startup, and they needed someone to lead the technology aspect off the ground.

Three different platforms were needed 1. Client Facing App, 2. Admin Management App, 3. Order Management App.

The main requirements for the client-facing app were to keep the app simple, allow people to easily browse the catalog of restaurants upon entry, and the app must be usable, reliable, and functional.

Version 1.0 Development

Version 1.0 was launched in 2018, with all three platforms supporting each other. The Main stack used was ReactJS, MongoDB, and Netlify Servers.

Version 2.0 - The mobile App is coming

After 2 years in the market, the founders decided it was time for a mobile app, in addition to some expansion and upgrades to their platforms. Version 2.0 of the Admin and Order Management Apps was launched in early 2021, and the mobile app is currently in Beta testing, to be released in early 2022. The Admin Platform was rebuilt using NextJS, Mongoose, and MongoDB. The Mobile App was built using Expo and React Native.
